이 집은 성암 권철연(1874~1951) 선생이 살던 집으로 1880년경 건너마을인 운곡에서 이곳으로 정착하여 건립하였다고 한다.
만석봉을 뒤로 두고 동향으로 자리잡고 있는데 9칸의 대문채를 들어서면 넓은 사랑마당이 있고 마당의 좌측에는 3칸의 서실이 있으며 대문채와 마주하여 □자형의 정침이 배치되어 있다.
정침의 양쪽 허리부분에는 토담을 좌우로 뻗어 내외 마당으로 공간부분을 하고 있으며 동향건물임에도 툇마루를 설치하는 등 남측면을 적극 활용하기 위한 평면 구성이 돋보이는 주택이다.

This late Choson period upper-class house was built by Kwon Chulyeon(1874–1951), a literary licentiate (chinsa), who moved here from the nearby village of Ungok around 1880.
The house faces east with the Mansok Peak in the back. There is a broad outer yard past the gate section of nine kan (kan is a traditional unit of measure referring to the space bewteen two pillars). The main living quarters, which is of a square layout, is a reading room tothe left. A low earthen wall surrounds the main quarters, separating the inner and outer courtyards. Long verandahs with wooden floors were installed along the southern siders of the buildings, seemingly for sun-light since the house faces east.
